This article explains how Mutex Period Subsets in APS group periods for easier management and consistent updates across setups. They simplify period selection and enhance reporting flexibility in Pivot, Chrono, and Custom Reports by allowing users to select intervals without adjusting filters or dates manually.
Period Subsets (Normal Subsets)
Period Subsets are used to group periods together, allowing users to reference these groups in their setup. These subsets are automatically generated based on the period year, making it easier to organise and manage periods efficiently.
Mutex Subsets
Mutually exclusive subsets are designed to allow categories such as periods to be created and managed in a single location. Any changes made here will automatically update all other references across the setup. This helps ensure consistency and makes the setup process more efficient for users. In addition to simplifying setup, Period Mutex Subsets also make reporting more flexible. They allow users to easily select the desired interval from the Mutex Subsets when generating reports, without needing to adjust filters or settings elsewhere.
The following are examples of how Period Mutex Subsets are used in APS:
Pivot Report
Chrono Report
Period Mutex Subsets can be used in Chrono Reports to adjust the report's time settings, allowing you to generate outputs based on the selected mutex subset. This enables more flexible reporting by focusing on your preferred timeframe.
Custom Report
Using Mutex Subsets eliminates the need for modifying the dates on custom report each time to report. You only need to have the updated Mutex Subset each time to report the desired interval i.e Mutex Subsets for Weekly or Fortnightly.
