This guide has been developed to explain the use of the Preschedule step in verifying the most recent mine design state, reviewing active mining faces, and setting the status of each block across critical activities (Drilling, Charging, Blasting, Mining, Dumping). This process ensures that the scheduler has precise, up-to-date progress information to effectively manage remaining tasks and maintain proper sequencing.
Users have the capability to update the status of each block within an activity, document the remaining proportion for partially completed tasks, perform bulk edits on groups of blocks and activities, and ensure that activity precedence is maintained. Common activities that can be prescheduled include drilling, charging, blasting, mining, and dumping. This process produces a clean, validated dataset where each block accurately represents the outstanding work required prior to the commencement of scheduling.
Prerequisites
- Latest mine faces (survey faces) must be imported in Rapid Reserver
- If any changes, the latest mine design must also be imported in Rapid Reserver
- The activity list in the Production Mode Features step must be adequately configured to include all relevant mining activities specific to the site (Drilling, Charging, Blasting, Mining, Dumping, Batter Pulling).
Workflow (Step‑by‑Step)
1) Open the Preschedule Step
Once survey faces have been updated in Rapid Reserver, the user can navigate to the Preschedule step. Confirm that all activities listed relate to what was selected in the Production Mode Features.
2) Choose the Activity to Update
- In the Activity panel, select the activity to be prescheduled (Drilling, Charging, Blasting, Mining, or Dumping).
- Once the activity is selected the Record table will highlight blocks relevant to the chosen activity.
3) Filter to the target bench or block
- Filter down to the desired section to edit (bench, phase, pit, flitch or block)
4) Update Status (Tabular Edit)
- Select the block/bench to edit.
- In the Proportion Remaining field for the selected activity, Indicate the percentage of the block remaining for that particular activity (e.g., 0.4 which is equivalent to 40%). The orange color indicates that the value has been manually edited.
Once the proportion remaining has been updated, the remaining drill meters, mining volume, dumping volume or charging tonnes will be updated to match the proportion indicated.
NB: If a successor activity is prescheduled the predecessor activity will automatically be updated. E.g. If charging is marked as complete, drilling will automatically be marked as completed.
5) Update Status (Graphical Edit)
- The Edit Graphically option can also be used to edit the blocks.
- This feature allows the user to preschedule blocks or benches while maintaining an overview of the entire pit. To select multiple blocks, first select one block, then hold the Control key and select additional blocks.
- Then modify the selection to update the Status to one of the following: 0% Remaining Proportion, 100% Remaining Proportion, Specify Remaining Proportion, or Automatically Deplete from Surface (for example, set Drilling to Half Complete with 50% Remaining for all selected items).
- Blocks below have been adjusted to maintain a 50% remaining proportion.
- The blocks updated Graphically will automatically update in the main table.
7) Preschedule database
Upon completion of the prescheduling process, the user may proceed to the Prescheduled Database step. At this stage, the database is presented reflecting the modifications made during the Preschedule step. For instance, blocks prescheduled to 50% drilled will appear as half drilled within the Prescheduled Database. The block shown below has a total of 260,878 tonnes; however, due to the prescheduling, only 130,439 tonnes remain to be drilled.
